Prof John Cooke obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and a graduate qualification in Education from the University of Birmingham. In 1992 he joined the Department of Biological Sciences at UND as Professor and Head. In 2003 he was awarded a Senior Professorship and elected Dean of the Faculty of Science. After the merger in 2005, prof John Cooke became the Dean of Science and Agriculture at UKZN. From 2009 until 2017 he was the founding Dean of Sciences at the new Botswana International University for Science and Technology where he also held the positions of Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Acting Vice Chancellor.
I have research publications and interests in the areas of Ecotoxicology, the Ecological Restoration of Contaminated Land especially from Mining, Eco minerals, and in Ethnobotany.
